What Happens when Parents Do Not Agree on Vaccinations?

Vaccinations can save lives, but there is a movement that is against them. Some people in Oregon believe that vaccines cause more harm than good, so they refuse to vaccinate their children. If you find yourself in a battle with an ex who is anti-vaccination, then you should be ready to tackle the situation. You both have a right to do what you feel is best for your child, but in this situation, it is often difficult to make a parent believe that vaccinations are the best thing if they are so vehemently against them.

The Chicago Tribune explains that if you are faced with an ex who refuses to allow your child to get vaccinations, you should always try to talk it out first. Never go behind his or her back and vaccinate your child. This will only increase the tension and lead to further issues.

You should go into any discussion armed with evidence that supports your side of things. You might want to speak with your child’s doctor and get his or her opinion on vaccinations. You may even be able to offer a compromise, such as an extended vaccination schedule so your child will only get a couple shots at a time instead of multiple ones at one time. Make sure to present your case in a straightforward manner with as much evidence as possible. You should also express your concerns, such as exposing those who cannot get immunizations to diseases.

You want to try to reach a compromise, but if that fails, you may have to go to court and get an order that requires your ex to allow your child to receive vaccinations. This information is for education and is not legal advice.
